Sonia Lopez is a community health educator at Illinois Extension. Sonia Lopez fosters physical and mental wellbeing through health education programs aimed at reducing health disparities. Sonia strongly believes in the value of health education as a tool to enhance resilience and social connections among marginalized communities. She is passionate about educational advancement, women’s health, and social justice.
Sonia obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and earned her Master's Degree in Public Health in Community Health Sciences with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. Sonia is experienced in the essential public health capabilities of partnership development, assessment, program planning and evaluation, coalition building, grant management, and staff training.
