Sonia Lopez is a community health educator at University of Illinois Extension. Sonia Lopez fosters physical and mental wellbeing through health education programs aimed at reducing health disparities. Sonia strongly believes in the value of health education as a tool to enhance resilience and social connections among marginalized communities. She is passionate about educational advancement, women’s health and social justice.
Sonia obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and earned her Master's Degree in Public Health in Community Health Sciences with a concentration in Maternal and Child Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health. Before coming to Extension, Sonia worked as a Health Educator for the Cook County Department of Public Health. Sonia has over 18 years of experience demonstrating essential public health capabilities such as partnership development, assessment, program planning and evaluation, coalition building, grant management, and staff training.
Outside of work, Sonia spends some of her time trying to practice what she teaches and the rest of the time chasing and feeding her two small children.
