Basics of Canning - Sustainable Living Series

Preserving food can be a great way to reduce food waste and enjoy your harvest well past the growing season. This process may seem intimidating, but it doesn't have to be difficult. Nutrition and Wellness Educator, Mary Liz Wright, will explain different types of canning, canning safety procedures, and provide a live demonstration.

Southern Illinois Summer Twilight Series

Do you grow and sell fresh products locally? Are you considering diversifying your farming operation? Would you like to get to know your local farmer? Join University of Illinois Extension educators as they team up with area farmers to provide four monthly evening meetings to highlight and demonstrate diverse farming operations across southern Illinois.

2024 Beef Field Day

The annual Beef Field Day at the University of Illinois Dixon Springs Agricultural Center will be on Thursday, July 30. The program will focus on research conducted at Dixon Springs that pertains to cow-calf producers as well as highlight a new NRCS program.

Dixon Springs Agricultural Center

The Dixon Springs Agricultural Center was established in 1934 near Simpson in Pope County. It is the largest experiment station of its kind east of the Mississippi River. DSAC links the laboratories and classrooms of University of Illinois and the USDA with the farms in Southern Illinois. Researchers at DSAC coordinate their programs to meet the needs of area farmers.
